Lancer Women's Basketball clinches first place with win over Waterloo

The Lancer women's basketball team clinched first place in the OUA West with a 66-61 win over the Waterloo Warriors on Wednesday night in Waterloo.
 
With the win, the Lancers are now 18-1 in conference play and in sole possession of first place in the OUA West. The win earns them a first round bye in the playoffs and home court advantage throughout the playoffs. 

Windsor also played without rookie standout Jessica Clemencon who was sided lined with a minor injury.
 
The Lancers took a commanding eight point lead in the first quarter to go up 23-15 at the end of the first.
 
Waterloo fought back in the second, holding the Lancers to only 12 points in the second quarter. The Lancers also held the Warriors to only 12 points to maintain their eight point lead heading into halftime.
 
After the break, Windsor continued their strong defensive effort holding the Warriors to only 10 points and increasing their lead to 52-37.
 
The Lancers hit a rough patch in the fourth quarter as the Warriors dominated the floor, outscoring Windsor 24-14. The Lancers managed to hold on for the win and take first place honours.
 
Bojana Kovacevic and Iva Peklova had 14 points each, while Laura Mullins scored 11 points in 18 minutes in her first game back after missing six games due to injury.
 
The Lancers will travel back to Waterloo on Saturday as they face the Laurier Golden Hawks at 1:00pm. In their last meeting the Lancers dominated the Hawks 75-49.
