With both teams seeing success during the holiday break, the Windsor Lancers basketball program is set to open up their 2011 home schedule as they play host to the Brock Badgers on Saturday night at the St. Denis Centre.
The No.1 ranked women's squad had a hard fought battle against the No.5 ranked Western Mustangs on Wednesday. For only the second time this season the Lancers ended up on the wrong side of the final game score as they dropped the contest by a score of 57-54.
With the loss the Lancers move to 7-2 on the season and sit in second place in the OUA West.
Miah-Marie Langlois led the Lancers with 13 points and 6 rebounds, while
Jessica Clemencon added 12 points and 7 rebounds.
The Lancers who are 6-1 on home court this season will look to rebound at the St. Denis Centre against a tough opponent in the Brock Badgers.
Coach Vallée's squad will look to continue their success against the third place Badgers, as the Blue & Gold won both contests against them last season. This matchup will have major implications on the standings in the OUA West division, as both teams currently sit with a 7-2 record.
On the men's side, Coach Oliver's squad is reeling after coming off of a big 87-72 win over the Mustangs on Wednesday. The Blue & Gold have now won three games in a row and sit atop the OUA West division with an impressive 8-1 record.
In their first test of 2011 the Lancers dominated the floor with a balanced attack with contributions coming from all sides.
Monty Hardware had 15 points,
Enrico Diloreto had 13, and
Andre Smyth chipped in 11 while
Josh Collins had nine assists.
Isaac Kuon led the Lancers with 25 points on 8-for-12 shooting, while
Lien Phillip chipped in the team's sole double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lancers are hoping to take a commanding lead in the West Division with a win over the Badgers. Already four points up on the second place Thunderwolves, the Lancers will look to put further distance between them and the rest of the division.
Last season saw the Lancers split the season series with the Badgers. Coach Oliver's squad won at home against the Badgers 72-49 before dropping a 80-79 decision on the road.
With the first half of the season behind them both Lancer teams have their sights set on the playoffs, and as both are nationally ranked, the Blue & Gold look poised to make deep runs in the playoffs.
Tip-off is set for 6:00pm for the women and 8:00pm for the men.
Tournament passes for the CIS Women's Basketball championships that were purchased prior to the holiday break will be available for pick-up at the game with valid ID.
