The Lancer women's basketball team finished with a 2-1 record at the Dino Classic this weekend in Calgary, AB.
Windsor opened the tournament with a 74-56 victory over the host Calgary Dinos on Friday night. The Lancers dominated the Dinos right from the opening tip holding a 41-25 lead at the half, before scoring 33 points in the second to earn the victory.
Jessica Clemencon had the games only double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Other Lancers in double digits were
Korissa Williams (13),
Laura Mullins (11), and
Miah-Marie Langlois with 10.
In game two on Saturday, the Lancer faced the Cape Breton Capers. The last time these two teams met was at the nationals championships last season when they Lancers defeated the Capers to claim a spot in the gold medal game.
This weekend, Windsor again dominated the Capers coming away with an 81-56 victory. In the win, Clemencon again led all scorers with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Langlois had another strong game finishing with 17 points and 9 rebounds, while
Bojana Kovacevic had 10 points and 7 rebounds.
In their final game of the weekend, Windsor tipped off against the Regina Cougars who were also undeafted heading into the contest.
Regina held a four point edge over the Lancers after the first quarter, before Windsor rebounded in the second to hold a narrow two point lead heading into the half.
In the second, the Cougars shot an impressive 73% from the three-point line to dominate the Lancers and the win 84-61.
Clemencon finished with 17 points while
Iva Peklova had a strong game finishing with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Williams also had a double-double for the Lancers with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Windsor will head to South Bend, Indiana on Wednesday to take on the NCAA's No. 2 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 7:00pm at the Purcell Pavillion.
