Strong first half leads No. 3 Lancers over Rams

Kovacevic led Windsor with 17 points and 5 rebounds
Box Score Bojana Kovacevic dropped 17 points and five rebounds as the No. 3 ranked Windsor Lancers cruised to a 76-48 victory over the Ryerson Rams at Kerr Hall Gym on Friday night.

With an explosive 28-point second quarter, the Lancers improved to 4-1 on the season, while the Rams suffered their third straight loss and drop to 1-4 on the year.

The Blue & Gold built an eight point advantage in the latter half of the opening quarter through rebounding and sheer shot-taking. Their 23 field goal attempts were matched with just six by the Rams in the first 10 minutes, however neither squad shot above 27% from the floor.

However, Windsor found their stride quickly in the next quarter, going on a 9-1 run that was topped off with a three by Miah-Marie Langlois.

The Lancers finished the first half shooting 45% and dropping six three-pointers at the end of twenty minutes, to head into the break up 42-11.

The Rams rebounded after the half as Angela Tilk scored five straight points to open the third quarter. Windsor then went on a seven point run and held a 57-33 lead heading into the fourth.

However, the Rams opened the fourth with a streak of their own to bring Windsor's lead below 20 for the first time since the opening half. The Lancers strong defense kicked in as they held on for their fourth win of the year.

In addition to Kovacevic's 17 points, Jocelyn LaRocque chipped in 11 and Jessica Clemencon had 10.

The Lancers will cross town tomorrow night to take on the Toronto Varsity Blues at Varsity Centre at 6:00pm.
