The No. 2 ranked Windsor Lancers captured their fourth Holiday Classic tournament title in as many years last week at the St. Denis Centre.
The Lancers welcomed the Bishop Gaiters, Ryerson Rams and Fraver Valley Cascades to Windsor for the three day tournament.
In the teams' first game of the Lancer Holiday Classic, the Lancers defeated the Gaiters 71-40. The Lancers controlled the game after the Gaiters took a four point lead midway through the first quarter. Windsor lead the rest of the way using a strong inside attack and great rebounding.
They outscored Bishop's 36-16 in the paint and outrebounded the Gaiters 65-42. The Lancers were led by
Jessica Clemencon, with the game's only double-double, with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Miah Langlois chipped in 14 points.
The Gaiters were led by Jessy Roy with 14 points and Eloisa Katz with 10 rebounds.
In the teams' second game, Windsor hung on to defeat the Ryerson Rams 75-61. The Lancers opened the game on a 9-0 run, but the Rams would close the gap to 21-15 at the first quarter break.
Ryerson shot the ball effectively in the first half going 13-29 compared to Windsor's 9-27 stat line.
With the Lancers up 35-32 at half, they opened the second half with four threes from
Emily Abbott and
Bojana Kovacevic to open up a big lead that they would not relinquish.
Ryerson was lead by 24 points and 11 rebounds from Angela Tilk while the Lancers received 18 points and 10 rebounds from Langlois.
In their final game of the tournament, the Lancers faced Fraser Valley and came away with a 78-59 victory in a well played contest.
Rebounding was the story of the game with Windsor winning that battle 51-36, including 24 offensive rebounds for the Lancers. Windsor also had 25 second chance points compared to 8 for the Cascades.
The Lancers lead by 13 points at the half and used a strong third quarter performance to create a large lead.
The Cascades battled all game with Tessa Klassen and Sarah Wierks leading the way with 13 points for Klassen and 10 points and 7 rebounds for Wierks.
Jessica Clemencon (17 pts, 7 rebs) and Miah Langlois (14 pts, 8 rebs, 5 asts) lead 5 Lancers in double digits.
The Lancers will now start divisional play this Wednesday when they host the McMaster Marauders at 6:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.
