Box Score In their first game of the 2012 calendar year, the No. 2 Lancer women's basketball team defeated the McMaster Marauders 68-57 on Wednesday night at the St. Denis Centre.
With the win, the Lancers are now 7-2 on the season and remain in second place in the OUA West division, while the Marauders fall to 4-5 on the year.
The Marauders held an early 9-6 lead to start the opening quarter before the Lancers battled back with a strong mix of defense and offensive pressure. The trio of
Korissa Williams,
Jessica Clemencon, and Miah Langlois went on a 9-0 run to give Windsor a 15-9 edge, and a 19-15 lead after the first quarter.
In the second, Clemencon had the Lancers first six points in the quarter to help build a 37-25 lead at halftime.
McMaster increased the pressure on the Lancers in the second half, and closed the scoring gap to six (53-47) with eight minutes remaining. Langlois and Williams again opened up the scoring for the Lancers with six fast break points over the course of two minutes to secure the win for the Lancers.
Clemencon finished the game with a game high 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Williams had an exceptional night with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists.
Iva Peklova had a strong game defensively with 10 rebounds, while Langlois chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds.
The Marauders were led by Hailey Milligan with her team's only double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Chiarot had a team high 17 points in the loss.
Windsor will host their second of three straight home games this Saturday night when they host the Guelph Gryphons at 6:00pm at the St. Denis Centre
