Men's Soccer ties Gryphons, falls to Lions

The Lancer men's soccer team earned a point against the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday afternoon before falling 3-1 to the No. 2 York Lions on Sunday.

Windsor is now 4-4-2 on the season and sits in fourth in the OUA West division.

Throughout the first half on Saturday, possession was tossed evenly between teams. Windsor keeper, Dejo Olagbeji was instrumental in the disruption of the multitude of Gryphon attacks throughout the game. Gryphon keeper Chad Paparon, was also able to keep the Lancers at bay.  The two keepers would combine to round out the half tied at 0.

Despite the excellent communication and footwork between teams, the scoreless game served only to fan the flame of frustration on the field.  As the level of tension and physicality rose, fouls and free kicks became the theme of the day. Guelph's Brenden Springer was able to bury his own rebound off a penalty kick in the 60th minute to give Guelph a 1-0 lead.

Determined to pierce the Gryphon defence, the Lancers finally proved successful in the 72nd minute as John Bahdi was able to trickle in the final goal of the day to tie the game at one.

Olabegi made 6 saves in the draw.

On Sunday, the Lions led 1-0 on a controversial goal heading into the second half. York would build a three goal lead throughout the half until Eric Cirovski scores his second of the season to put the Lancers on the board.

The Lancers continued to apply constant offensive pressure for the remainder of the game but could not get any closer on the scoreboard.

Olagbegi made 4 saves in the loss.

Windsor will travel to London on Fridya night to face the Western Mustangs before returning home on Sunday to host the UOIT Ridgebacks at 2:15pm at Alumni Field.
