Men's soccer concludes 2025 with home-and-home against Western

The University of Windsor Lancers men's soccer team wrapped up their 2025 season with a home-and-home series against the Western Mustangs, dropping both games on Friday (Oct. 10) and Saturday (Oct. 11).

FRIDAY
With both teams sitting near the bottom of the OUA standings, Friday night's match at Alumni Field carried extra weight as the Windsor Lancers (2-7-1) and Western Mustangs (1-6-3) looked to close out their seasons on a high note. The Mustangs wasted no time asserting themselves, nearly scoring within the first two minutes when Daniel Oshana struck the post. Their pressure continued, and in the fifth minute, striker Callum Yuille opened the scoring after dancing past the Lancer defense and slotting home a composed finish past Lancers keeper Nicholas Zanin. Windsor responded with more attacking intent, highlighted by a dangerous run and cross from Nico Fontecha in the 15th minute, but the Mustangs defense remained composed. In the 27th minute, it was Yuille again who used his pace to score his second of the night, doubling Western's lead heading into halftime.

The Lancers came out of the break with renewed urgency. After a key series of saves from Zanin to keep the score close, Windsor earned a penalty and capitalized, as Wilchrist Abdo calmly converted from the spot to cut the deficit in half. The goal gave Windsor life, but the Mustangs continued to press. Yuille came close to completing his hat trick before Alan Monyard eventually extended Western's lead to 3–1. The Mustangs held firm for the final 20 minutes to secure all three points.

SATURDAY
Less than 24 hours later, the Lancers hit the road to face the Mustangs once more, this time in London, Ont. However, the script looked all too familiar, as Callum Yuille once again opened the scoring, this time in the 33rd minute. Western doubled their lead in the 45th minute, taking an advantage into the break.

The Mustangs picked up right where they left off after halftime. Within ten minutes, Adeyamo delivered a corner that was met by Stefano Pellicioni, who headed it into the top-left corner to make it 3–0. Western added two more goals by Ennis Bernaus and Panos Tzanetakis, sealing a dominant 5–0 win for the Mustangs.

UP NEXT
The Lancers close out their 2025 campaign with a 1-8-3 (W-L-T) record, facing a tough end to their season. Despite the results, the team will look to regroup and build toward a competitive showing in 2026.
