Lancers dispose of Rams, remain undefeated

Box Score WINDSOR, Ont.- Jessica Clemencon and Korissa Williams each recorded a game-high 23 points, leading the Windsor Lancers women`s basketball team to an 83-58 victory over the Ryerson Rams on Friday evening.

Miah-Marie Langlois picked up 15 points, and Clemencon added 10 rebounds to pick up a double-double in the victory.  The Lancers (5-0) maintain first place in the OUA West with the victory, while the Rams (2-3) had its two-game win-streak snapped after getting back to .500 one week ago.

The teams exchanged the first 14 points of the match, but Clemencon took a pass from Langlois after a hard drive down the middle of the lane, laying in the ball in off the glass while picking up a foul to put the Lancers up 10-7.

However, Ryerson freshman Cassandra Nofuente brought her team even with two three-pointers early in the contest.  Silvana Jez gave the Rams a slight lead with another jumper from beyond the arc.  The defending champions re-took the advantage on jumpers from Korissa Williams and Jocelyn LaRocque (Windsor).  Sophomore Tess Kreiger (London, Ont.) added two more points two put the home side up by double digits heading into the second quarter.

The Rams looked to cut into the lead, as Jillian Semple capitalized on a three-point play to bring the visitors within six.  Langlois answered with an astounding mid-air adjustment to land two more points for Windsor.  The hometown native added another layup moments later to extend the lead.  A three by Kelsey Wright kept the Rams close with jumper from beyond the arc, but the Lancers still held a 41-35 lead at the half.

Williams led all players with 15 points, while Nofuente had 12 points for the Rams after two quarters of play.  The Rams shot 37.8% from the floor in the first half, compared to 51.5% from the Lancers.

The Rams looked to even the score early in the third quarter.  Dayana Gechkova notched a three-pointer that cut the Lancers lead to three points.  However, after the Lancers called a timeout, they went on a 7-0 run to push the lead back up to double-digits.  Windsor continued to pour in the offense in the latter half of the period, as Williams and Clemencon each picked up multiple buckets to help extend the lead.

Back-to-back three`s by Laura Mullins (Windsor) and Langlois was followed by a three-point play by Kreiger, and the Lancers led Ryerson 70-45 after the third quarter.  The fourth period was much of the same from the CIS banner-holders, as a basket from LaRocque gave Windsor a 30-point advantage en route to their fifth-straight victory.

The Lancers finished the match with a 49.3% field-goal percentage, while the Rams garnered a 31.3% success rate from the floor.

The women will look to remain undefeated tomorrow evening, when they welcome the Toronto Varsity Blues to the St. Denis Centre.  The contest will tip-off at 6:00 p.m., and can be seen live online here.
