Women's Basketball claims silver at OUA Final Four, earn berth to CIS Regionals

Box Score The No. 2 ranked Lancer Women's basketball team claimed the silver medal at the OUA Women's Basketball Final Four on Saturday night after falling to the No. 6 Ottawa Gee Gees 89-40 at Montpetit Hall in Ottawa.

The Lancers will now head back to Ottawa next weekend for the CIS East Regionals. The winners of the East and West regionals earn a trip to the national championships in Calgary March 17-19.

The Gee Gees opened the game with a 12-0 run, forcing the Lancers to take a timeout less than three minutes into the first quarter.

Ottawa took a 28-12 lead heading into the second quarter and built a 23 point lead midway through the frame. With the Gee Gee defense preventing the Lancers from getting any good shot attempts, the host team took a commanding 46-16 lead at halftime.

The Gee Gees did not let up after the intermission, as they scored the first eight points of the quarter, ending any hopes of a Lancer comeback.

Overall, Windsor struggled against a solid Ottawa defensive, shoot a poor 23% on 14-for-61 shots, from the field.

The Lancers were led by Jessica Clemencon who had a team high 11 points. Defensively, Korissa Williams had a 7 rebounds.
