Box Score 2 The Lancer women's volleyball team dropped a pair of games against the Lakehead Thunderwolves to open the regular season this weekend in Thunder Bay, ON.Â
Both games were intense and went the full five sets, as Windsor lost 3-2 (19-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-14, 10-15) Friday and 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 28-26, 11-15) on Saturday.Â
On Friday night, the 'Wolves came out of the gate fast in the first set 5-0 on some excellent serving. The teams traded points and sets throughout the game.Â
For the Lancers,
Mackenzie Coyle and
Kaila Seguin led the way with 13 kills and 4 blocks apiece. Seguin also had 14 digs while Coyle made 10 of her own. Setter
Danielle Lenarduzzi made 36 assists.
On Saturday, both teams were stretched to the absolute limit on this day, trading spike for spike and dig for dig, Lakehead using some heroics in the late stages of the match to pull out the win. Such was the 3rd set, when Lakehead trailed 22-19 and looked down and out. Following a timeout the 'Wolves went on a 6-1 run to go ahead 2 sets to 1.

Windsor returned the favour in the fourth set, this time Lakehead leading 24-22 before the Lancers mounted a late rally, forcing extra points and eventually took the set.

Just as they did on Friday, the 'Wolves found a way to win the 5th and deciding set to remain undefeated in regular season play.

Hannah Robson made 11 digs.
Windsor heads home next weekend for a pair of games against the McMaster Marauders on Friday night and the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 6:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.Â
