Windsor falls to Ravens to open season

Box Score OTTAWA- The Windsor Lancers men's basketball team began their 2013-14 season with a 95-74 loss to the defending national champion Carleton Ravens on Friday night at the Ravens' Nest.

The No. 1 ranked Ravens, whose last regular season loss came at the hands of the Lancers in last year's season opener, jumped out to a 20-point lead through the first two quarters of play, holding Windsor to just 11 points in the second quarter. Windsor won the third quarter but were still down by 19 heading into the final period and could not make up the deficit and drop to 0-1 on the year.

Phillip Scrubb had a game-high 24 points, while Kevin Churchill and and Thomas Scrubb added 19 and 18 to help Carleton to victory. Lien Phillip was just one rebound shy of a double-double, recording 20 points and nine boards to lead the Lancers in both categories. Enrico Diloreto chipped in 21 points, going 6-of-12 from the floor and Evan Matthews notched 13 points in a losing cause for Windsor.

The No. 6 ranked Lancers will look for redemption tomorrow evening against the No. 3 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees, with tip-off set for 8:00 p.m. The game can be seen live online at SSN Canada.
