The Lancers (9-1) go into the holiday break atop of the OUA West division, and are currently riding a nine-game win streak. Since losing to the Carleton Ravens to open the season, Windsor has defeated every opponent by 20 or more points over their current run.
Lakehead drops to a regular season mark of 4-6. Ayse Kalkan led the Thundewolves with 16 points in a losing cause.
For the second evening in a row, the visitors held their own with the three-time defending champions throughout the opening 10 minutes of the contest, at one point holding an 11-8 advantage. However, the hosts quickly took over near the end of the opening quarter, as a layup by Williams was followed by a three-pointer by
Miah-Marie Langlois to put the women up by four at the end of the first.
The women went on a 15-2 run from the final minutes of the first into the opening moments of the second stanza, quickly spreading the lead into double-digits. Two-straight turnovers by the Thunderwolves resulted in five more Lancer points courtesy of a
Caitlyn Longmuir three and Williams lay-up, leading to a Lakehead timeout. However, the Windsor offence was potent throughout the second, notching 36 points in the quarter to take a 41-19 lead at the half.
Williams led all players with 11 points at the break, while Kalkan picked up eight for the Thunderwolves.
The visitors attempted to cut into the Lancer spread in the third, as Katie Ulakovic dropped a three and Kalkan picked up a jumper to spark the Lakehead offence.
Andrea Kiss hit a mid-range jumper and picked up a block in response for the Lancers. The Tecumseh, Ont. native then drove to the hoop and drained two free throws, as Windsor comfortably maintained their lead at the end of 30 minutes.
The two towers of Roger and
Tessa Kreiger exchanged buckets in the low post to begin the fourth quarter, and Clemencon heated up. The France native hit a base-line jumper and followed that by showcasing her repertoire from beyond the arc, notching three of four jumpers to further pad Windsor's advantage.Â
Windsor shot 40.5% from the floor and totalled 50 rebounds while Lakehead was 20% on the night and garnered 43 boards.Â
The Lancers will return to conference play on January 8 when they head to Waterloo, Ont. to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. The women will also host the Lancer Holiday Classic from December 28 to December 30 at the St. Denis Centre.
