Shannon Dean notched a career-high 17 kills, and the Windsor Lancers persevered through a back-and-forth affair to claim a 3-2 (25-15,21-25,19-25,25-17,15-8) win over the Queen's Gaels on Friday night at the St. Denis Centre.
Saturday is Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the St. Denis Centre. "Get Your Pink On" t-shirts will be on sale for $10 during the basketball and volleyball double-headers and at South Windsor Arena at the men's hockey game.
The Lancers (7-5) snapped a two-game losing streak, using a dominant middle portion of the final set where they went on a 7-3 run to pull out a victory over the Gaels (6-6), who have lost two straight and four of their last six games. Dean garnered a .519 hitting percentage, and added a game-high 3.5 blocks in the victory.
Kaila Seguin recorded 14 kills and 12 digs for the women, and
Danielle Lenarduzzi added 53 set assists and five kills. Veterans
Jennifer Straver and
Jessica Shepley tallied 10 and 7 kills respectively, while
Melissa Smyth added eight of her own in victory. Katie Hagarty and Kelsey Bishop grabbed 13 and 12 kills in a losing cause for the Gaels.
The Lancers worked at a .280 hitting efficiency compared to .140 from the visitors, and both squads tallied five aces in the contest.
The women will return to the St. Denis Centre tomorrow evening on Breast Cancer Awareness Day to host the RMC Paladins. Game-time is set for 6:00 p.m. and the match will be available live online at GoLancers.TV
