Jessica Clemencon tallied a game-high 19 points, and the Windsor Lancers women's basketball team started off the New Year with a bang, toppling the Laurier Golden Hawks 73-44 to remain atop the OUA West division on Wednesday evening.
With both teams coming into the contest with a sparkling 9-1 record, it was the Lancers who emerged victorious as the France national added seven rebounds and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
Korissa Williams and
Miah-Marie Langlois added 15 and 14 points respectively for Windsor (10-1), who handed the Golden Hawks (9-2) their first conference loss after six straight victories from the home side.
Rookie
Cheyanne Roger made the most of her 15 minutes of action on the court, dropping eight points on 4-of-5 shooting and adding five boards for the women, and
Kim Moroun chipped in with six points and six rebounds on the evening. Laura Doyle recorded 10 points for the Golden Hawks who drop to third place in the division following the loss.
Windsor shot 46.9% from the field and dominated the glass, outrebounding Laurier 45-23. The three-time defending CIS champions were also a potent 25-of-27 from the free-throw line, and have now defeated an opponent by 20 or more points for the 10th straight contest.
The Lancers remain tied for first place with the Western Mustangs (10-1), who topped Guelph on Wednesday evening for their 10th straight triumph. Windsor will conclude their week's action in Hamilton on Saturday afternoon where they will face off against McMaster (8-3). Game-time is set for 2:00 p.m., and the contest is available online
