Chris Oliver and his University of Windsor Lancers Men's Basketball program hosted a special community outreach event on Tuesday at Academie Ste. Cecile prior to their exhibition match-up against Wittenberg College.
Â
The Lancers presented to the student body at Academie Ste. Cecile and talked about issues around tolerance, unity and the value of being part of a team. Veterans
Evan Matthews and
Mike Rocca led the discussion and engaged the students in the importance of teamwork in all areas of life.
Â
Following the presentation, the Lancers took to the court at the gymnasium of Academie St. Cecile as they improved to 7-0 in pre-season play with a 72-65 win over NCAA Division III Wittenberg College. Aftera sloppy first half for both teams, Windsor took command in the second half as they built a 20-point lead and cruised to victory.
Â
This was the second pre-season match-up over the past few years with Wittenberg, a small liberal arts college located in Sprinfield, Ohio. Founded in 1854, the Wittenberg Tigers are a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and participate in 23 varsity sports in NCAA Division III. In 2013-14, the Tigers finished 21-8 overall and 13-5 in NCAC conference play.

For the Lancers, Head Coach
Chris Oliver's squad continues their tremendous start in 2014-15 as they are currently 7-0 in pre-season action. The team just returned from out west on the weekend where they earned impressive victories over Fraser Valley University, Thompson Rivers and the UBC Thunderbirds.
Â
The Lancers solid pre-season started back in August when they defeated NCAA Division I Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne Mastodons 89-74 at the St. Denis Centre. This was the fourth straight year that
Chris Oliver's squad has earned a pre-season victory over an NCAA Division I opponent. The Lancers previously earned wins over Oakland University, University of South Alabama and The Citadel.
Â
After a brief rest, Coach Oliver's squad will be back in action this weekend in tournament play in St. Catharines. The Lancers will battle McGill, the University of Regina and Fraser Valley for the second time this year in pre-season action.
