Williams, Lancers defeat visiting Gryphons

Box Score Led by a standout performance from captain Korissa Williams, the Lancer women's basketball team opened up the home portion of their season with a 76-53 win over the Guelph Gryphons.
 
Williams led the Blue & Gold with a game high 21 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Fellow fifth year Jocelyn LaRocque contributed 17 points in the win, while sophomore Cheyanne Roger chipped in ten.
 
Windsor improved to 2-0 on the season and are in first place in the OUA west division, while the Gryphons fall to 1-1 and sit in third in the OUA central division.
 
The Gryphons were led by Vanessa Rampado with 13 points and Bridget Atkinson with 12 points.
 
Windsor played a balanced attack throughout the entire game, and held the Gryphons to just a 34.4% shooting percentage compared to their 48.3%. Defensively, Windsor narrowly out rebounded the Gryphons 36-34.
 
Prior to the game, the Lancers were presented with their CIS Championship rings in a special pre-game ceremony in front of over 1000 fans.
 
Windsor will travel to Toronto next weekend when they face the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday night before taking on the Ryerson Rams on Saturday. Both games will tip-off at 6:00pm and can be seen live on www.oua.tv.
