Lancers fall to OUA West leaders Guelph

Box Score GUELPH, Ont.- The Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team lost in straight sets (25-18, 25-14, 25-18) to the OUA West division-leading Guelph Gryphons on Friday evening at the W.F. Mitchell Centre.

Coming off a loss to the previously national ranked York Lions in their final home game of the season last weekend, the women ran into a hot Gryphons squad who just had an eight-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the McMaster Marauders two weekends ago.

Fresh off a near 12-day break from conference play, the Gryphons (13-5) clinched top spot in the West division with Friday's victory. The Lancers (9-9) cannot move up or down from their third-place standing in the bracket, and will take on the second-seeded Marauders (11-6) in Hamilton next weekend for the first round of the OUA post-season.

Sophomore middle Shannon Dean led Windsor with four kills, 5.5 blocks and three aces on the evening, earning a game-high 12.5 points, while veteran Kaila Seguin chipped in with eight kills. Danielle Lenarduzzi totalled 17 assists for the Lancers, who committed as many errors as they did kills against a challenging Guelph defence. Windsor drops to 2-7 away from the St. Denis Centre.

Three Gryphons tallied eight kills, as Alicia Combe-Dingwall and Madison DeDecker topped the home squad with 11.5 points. Guelph garnered a .186 killing percentage, and improved their home record to 7-2.

The Lancers will look to finish a regular season above the .500 mark for the first time since the 2005-06 season when they head to Waterloo to take on the Warriors (5-12) on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m.
