Women's Basketball dominates Ottawa

The Lancer women's basketball team closed out the weekend with a convincing 76-47 win over the visiting Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday night at the St. Denis Centre.
 
With the victory, the No. 1 Lancers move to 11-1 on the season and remain tied for first place in the OUA west division, while the Gee-Gees move to 8-5 and remain in first place in the OUA north division.
 
Lancer fifth year forward Jocelyn LaRocque led the Lancers with 16 points, while Courtney VandeBovencamp and Emily Prevost each came off the bench to record the game's only two double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 points, 11 rebounds, respectively.
 
Korissa Williams and Carly Steer each also reached 10 points in the victory, while Cheyanne Roger had a huge game defensively with six blocks.
 
For Ottawa, Stephanie MacDonald had a team high 16 points and 5 rebounds, and was followed closely by Krista van Slingerland with 14 points.
 
Windsor controlled the game from the get-go shooting 46.6% compared to Ottawa's 24.2% from the field, and 60% from three point range against Ottawa's 18.2%.
 
The Lancers will return to the court at home once again next weekend when they host the Queen's Gaels on Friday night at 6:00pm.
 
Saturday's game marks the Department of Athletics' annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day. New commemorative t-shirts will be available for sale at all events throughout the day for $10 with all proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Pink 'Shoot for the Cure' grocery totes will also be available for $3. Windsor hosts York at 6:00pm.
