In their first of two road games, the Lancer men's volleyball team dropped a tight 3-2 (15-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-22, 7-15) decision to the host Waterloo Warriors on Friday night.
Â
The Lancers fought the Warriors to the bitter end and threw the host school off their game but were unable to come away with the win.
Â
After dropping the first set 16-25, the second set turned in favour of the visiting Lancers as their offensive attack picked up and was led by outside hitters
Gabriel Burlacu and
Jake MacNeil. Windsor's improved play paired with untimely errors by Waterloo allowed Windsor to claim the set 25-22 and even the match at one set a piece.
Â
The seesaw affair continued in the third set as Waterloo reclaimed the momentum with strong net play to take the set 25-17. In the fourth, Waterloo appeared in control in the fourth set taking an early 10-6 lead but the next four points would go the way of the Lancers with
Adam Thompson picking up three straight kills in the process. The two combatants would go toe-to-toe before Windsor provided some separation late in the set on consecutive kills by Burlacu to take the set 25-22, sending the match to a fifth and deciding set.
Â
Windsor appeared to lose momentum in the final set as the hosts doubled up on the Blue & Gold 15-7 to take the game.
Â
Burlacu finished the game with 13 points on 13 kills, while MacNeil and
Greg Simone each finished with 12 points and 11 kills.

The Lancers travel to Guelph Saturday night at 8:00pm. The game can be seen live on
