In a rare Sunday afternoon contest, the Lancer women's hockey team traveled up the 401 to defeat the York Lions 4-1 in Toronto.
Â
With the win, the Lancers improve to 12-2-4 while the Lions fall to 9-9-2 with three weeks left in the regular season.
Â
Fifth year forward
Candice Chevalier put the Lancers on the board first after an almost scoreless first period. Accepting a pass from
Shailyn Waites and
Natalie Barrette, Chevalier popped the puck past York goaltender Megan Lee to put Windsor up by one heading into the second period.
Â
The Lions tied it up just two minutes into the second before
Erinn Noseworthy stickhandled her way through some trouble to score her eighth of the season and put the Lancers back up by one.
Â
Chevalier then scored her second of the game late in the period to give Windsor a two goal cushion heading into the third.
Â
Late in the third,
Jenny MacKnight scored her final goal of the regular season before heading to Spain for the 2015 Winter Universiade. With Krysten Lawrence in the box,
Rachel Chantler and
Kayla Dodson maneuvered the puck up to MacKnight who fired it past Lee to secure the Lancer win.
Â
Lancer goaltender
Marissa Kozovski earned her tenth win of the season making 20 saves to earn the win.
Â
Windsor will head home next weekend for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday. The Lancers will host the Toronto Varsity Blues on Breast Cancer Awareness Day at 4:00pm, and will follow that up with another matinee at 4:00pm on Sunday against the Ryerson Rams.Â
