Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

No. 7 Lancers dominate visiting Ridgebacks

In game of a weekend doubleheader, the No. 7 Lancer men's hockey team defeated the visiting UOIT Ridgebacks 8-3 Friday night at South Windsor Arena.

With the win, the Lancers move to 4-0-1 on the season while the Ridgebacks fall to 2-3-0 heading into game two Saturday night.

UOIT wasted no time getting on the board scoring just 1:49 into regulation. Adam Campagnolo completed a play from Ryan Doucette and Jesse Stoughton to surprise the Lancers and give the visitors an early lead.

In a period that saw some great defense from both teams, the Lancers weren't able to tie up the game until 13:29 when Paul Bezzo scored his first of the year and send the game into the intermission tied at one.

Windsor exploded in the second period with four unanswered goals to hold a commanding 5-1 lead heading into the final period. Steve Anthony scored the second of Windsor's three power play goals just 1:49 into the middle frame to start the ball rolling.

Five minutes into the period, Dylan Sequin doubled the Lancer lead with his third of the season before Bezzo scored his second of the game off a pass from Kyle Haas less than two minutes later.

Eric Noel closed out the scoring in the second midway through the period with the Lancers second power play goal of the match, and his fourth of the year at 9:03.

The red light lit up even more in the third as the teams combined for five goals. Fighting off a penalty, the Ridgebacks came out in full force to score shorthanded with a goal from Ryan Doucette to cut the Windsor lead to 5-2.

Windsor retaliated with a pair of goals from Sebastian Beauregard and Brennan Feasey to restore their two goal lead. That wouldn't last long however, as Ben Blasko scored just seven seconds after Feasey to cut the Lancer lead again.

Kyle Hope scored his third of the season at 15:29 to close out the scoring.

Michael Doan made 24 saves in net to earn the win in net for the Lancers, while Brendan O'Neill made 18 saves through two periods and Ben Csiernik made 13 in the losing effort.

The two teams will face off again Saturday night in game two of the weekend doubleheader. The puck will drop at 7:30pm at South Windsor Arena and can be seen live on www.oua.tv.
