The Lancer women's hockey team earned their first win of the season on Friday night with a 3-2 double overtime win over the York Lions at South Windsor Arena.
Â
With the win, the Lancers improve to 0-5-1-1 on the season, while the Lions fall to 1-5-1-1. Windsor will look for their second win on Saturday when they host the Guelph Gryphons at 4:00pm.
Â
Although the Lancers came out full of energy it was the Lions who got on the board first at 2:47 of the first period on a goal by Renata Bastos. The rest of the first period was back and forth play where both goalkeepers were keeping the game close.
Â
Late in the second
Jillian Rops tied the game up on a goal mouth scramble. The goal was scored at 14:39 with the assist going to Hilary Hettwer.
Â
The Lancers then surged out and took a 2-1 lead early in the first on a goal from Krysten Lawerence. The goal put the Blue & Gold in control of the game as they controlled the play for much of the third up until 13:56 in the third period when the Lions tied it up sending the game into a frenzy in the final five minutes with both teams fighting for the winning goal.
Â
The game was then sent into overtime and eventually double overtime where
Natalie Barrette fired the puck into the back of the net with just 0:32 second remaining in the frame to avoid the shoot-out and earn the Lancers their first win of the season.
Â
The Lancers are back in action Saturday afternoon when they take on the Gryphons at South Windsor Arena. Puck drops at 4:00pm and can be seen LIVE at
