Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lions edge Lancers in overtime

The Lancer men's hockey team earned a point in the OUA standings, after falling 2-1 to the York Lions in overtime on Saturday night in Toronto.

With the loss, the Lancers fall to 6-4-2 while the Lions improve to 7-1-3 and sit three points ahead of the Lancers in the OUA standings.

The game got off to a fast start with a goal by the Lancers just 1:42 into the first period, a short-handed tally by Justice Dundas after York's Derek Sheppard took an interference penalty only 48 seconds in.

The Lancer lead did not last long when Sheppard found the back of the net to level the score at 1-1 midway through the frame.

It appeared as though it would be a high-scoring affair after that start, but both goaltenders settled in after that and turned away every shot they faced until York's Mikhal Poldma scored in the first overtime period to give the Lions the win.

Lancer goaltender Michael Doan made 33 saves in the loss for the Lancers while York netminder Chris Perugini finished with 22 saves.

The Lancers return home next weekend for a pair of games against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The puck drops at 7:30pm on both Friday and Saturday night at South Windsor Arena.
