Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball sweeps Warriors; falls to MAC

The Lancer women's volleyball team split a pair of weekend road games against the Waterloo Warriors and McMaster Marauders.

Heading into their final weekend of competition before the holiday break, the Lancers are 5-3 on the season and tied for second place in the OUA west division with the Western Mustangs.

Windsor swept the host Warriors in three straight sets 26-24, 25-14, 25-13 on Friday night before falling 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-13) to the No. 9 Marauders on Saturday.

In the opening set on Friday, Waterloo jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Lancers clawed their way back to even the set at seven apiece.

Strong serving propelled the Warriors throughout the set as the hosts jumped out to a 24-22 lead. The Lancers refused to give up, however, and a few hitting errors by Waterloo and two setter dumps by Lauren Stirling gave Windsor four straight points to take the set 26-24.

From there Stirling and middle blocker Shannon Dean led Windsor to take the next two sets.  Stirling finished the game with 23 assists while Dean had eight kills and three blocks.  Emily McCloskey was also strong from the middle with seven kills in the match.

Against the Marauders, Windsor fell behind early in the first set, and although they fought hard to battle back they were unable to overcome the lead the hosts had built, falling 25-19.

The Marauders opened the second set with a 5-0 lead and carried that initial momentum throughout the remainder of the game taking the next two sets 25-14, 25-13.

The Lancers will close out the first half of the season on Saturday November 28th when they host the Mustangs at 6:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.
