The Lancer men's hockey team closed out first half of the regular season with a convincing 4-1 victory over the Western Mustangs Wednesday night at South Windsor Arena.
Â
With the win, Windsor heads into the holiday break with a 9-6-2 record, while the Mustangs fall to 10-6-0. The Lancers and Mustangs are tied for second place in the OUA west division, with Western still having to play one game on Friday before the break.
Â
Mark MacAuley opened the scoring for the Mustangs late in the first period to give Western a one goal lead. The Lancers did not allow the visitors to lead for long as the Blue & Gold tied it up just over a minute later.
Dylan Denomme brought the puck up the side, cutting in and passing the puck directly to captain
Kenny Bradford who put the puck in the top corner over the shoulder of Mustang goaltender Greg Dodds.
Â
Justice Dundas doubled up on the Mustangs at 3:38 of the second scoring his eighth of the year on a partial breakaway.
Â
Windsor continued to dominate the play throughout the third period adding two more unanswered goals to secure the win. First year Lancer
Tyson Ness accepted a pass from
Paul Bezzo and
Eric Noel in the slot, firing the puck onto the top shelf behind Dodds.
Â
In an effort to get on the board, the Mustangs pulled Dodds in favour of the extra man but were assessed a bench minor allowing Dundas to score his second of the game on the power play into the empty net.
Â
The Lancers will now break for the holidays and will return to action on Friday January 8, 2016 when they host the York Lions at 7:30pm at South Windsor Arena.
