Lancer Hockey drops game one to Badgers

St. Catharines, ON – The No. 7 Lancer men's hockey team lost their first game of the OUA quarter finals 2-1 to the Brock Badgers on Wednesday night on the road.

Brock now takes a 1-0 lead over the Lancers in the best of three series. Games two and three will take place at South Windsor Arena on Saturday at 4pm and Sunday at 7:30pm, respectively.

After a scoreless first period, the Lancers took a one goal lead when CIS leading scorer Spencer Pommells passed the puck over to rookie Dylan Denomme who nailed the puck past Brock goaltender Adrian Volpe.

Holding a one goal lead in the third period, the Lancers were unable to hold off the surging Badger attack. Brock scored two quick goals, within a minute of each other, from Andrew Radjenovic and Kaine Glendart to take a one goal lead with 12:38 remaining in regulation.

The Lancers pressured the Badger defense for the remainder of regulation, and goaltender Parker Van Buskirk made a number of solid saves in net for the Blue & Gold, but the Lancers were unable to get the equalizer to send the game into extra time.

Van Buskirk made 21 saves in net for the Lancers, while Volpe turned away 40 from the powerful Windsor offense.

The Lancers will look to equalize the series on Saturday afternoon when they host the Badgers in game two at 4:00pm at South Windsor Arena. Game three of the series will take place on Sunday at 7:30pm.

Tickets for the playoffs are $10 for adults, and $8 for youth/seniors. Fans are reminded that season passes, guest tickets, all-sport passes, and LYFE tickets are not valid for post season games.
