Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer shuts out Mustangs

A second half goal from Jack Sargent ended up being the lone goal of the night as the Windsor Lancers edged out the Western Mustangs 1-0 on Wednesday night at Mustangs Field.

Windsor maintains their spot atop the west division with 7-1-1 record while the Mustangs are tied for fourth place in the division with Laurier with a 3-4-2 record.

Sargent's goal came at the 51 minute mark after Western was given a foul at the top of their own 18-yard box. Western keeper Ben Cowman had made some great saves in the game in keeping Windsor off the board early, but he was unable to stop Sargent's finely placed shot as he put the ball over the defensive wall and into the Western net to secure a 1-0 lead.

Sargent's goal came early in the second half after the first 45 minutes saw the two teams on equal ground, with neither side being able to solve the other.

Windsor also gained an additional edge when Mustang freshman Ryan Quong was sent off with a red card, giving Windsor a one man advantage on the field for the remainder of regulation.

Despite playing a man up, Windsor was unable to capitalize on any opportunities, while Lancer goaltender Kyle Vizirakis held off any Mustang chances to earn his CIS leading seventh shutout in net.

Windsor, ranked #8 is the CIS, will now host the #1 ranked York Lions on Saturday afternoon at 3:15pm at Alumni Field.
