The Lancer men's hockey team had a tough weekend on the road, dropping a pair of games to the Toronto Varsity Blues and Guelph Gryphons.
On Friday, the Lancers were narrowly edged by the Varsity Blues 6-5 in a shoot-out, while on Saturday were doubled up on by Guelph 6-3. Windsor moves to 10-8-3 on the season and are currently in fifth place in the OUA west division standings.
With the Lancers leading 2-1 after the first period, the Blues exploded for three second period goals, two on the powerplay, to take a 4-3 advantage into the third frame.
Toronto's Patrick Marsh scored 4:26 into the third period to make it 5-3, but the Lancers responded with two goals from
Kyle Hope and a shorthanded marker from
Julian Luciani with 1:04 remaining to force overtime. With OT solving nothing, the game went into a shoot-out with the hosts coming out with the win.
On Saturday, the Lancers trailed 4-1 heading into the third period but scored two goals on their first two shots of the period to bring the score within one. Windsor out-shot Guelph 14-6 in the final frame as they pressed for the equalizer but were unable to get past Gryphons goaltender Andrew D'Agustini.
The Lancers will now travel to Toronto next weekend for a single game against the Ryerson Rams on Saturday night at 7:30pm.
