The Lancer women's hockey team dropped their 2016-17 season opener to the Western Mustangs 6-2 on Thursday night at South Windsor Arena. 

Fifth year forward Shawna Lesperance led the Blue & Gold scoring both goals, while junior Krystin Lawrence added two assists.

The Mustangs were led by fourth year senior Lyndsay Kirkham who registered a hat-trick in the Mustangs second game of the year. 

Rookie goaltender Molly Jenkins made 21 saves in net for the Lancers, while Kate Jacobs earned the win in net for the visitors making 15 saves.
