Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer earns OUA playoff berth

The Lancer men's soccer team have clinched a spot in the post season after a pair of road games this weekend against the York Lions and Guelph Gryphons.

Windsor, who fell to both York and Guelph, got some help from the Algoma Thunderbirds who held the Waterloo Warriors to a 1-1 tie. A Warrior win would have bumped them two points ahead of the Lancers, which would have subsequently knocked them out of the post season.

Saturday vs York, L 1-0

Both goalies were busy in the contest as York goalkeeper Andrew D'Souza made six saves while Lancer goaltender Kyle Vizirakis, stopped eight balls and allowed the one goal.

After a scoreless first half, the Lions wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the second when Lay found the back of the net in the 49th minute.

That was all the stingy York defence would need as the rest of the game played out without a goal and the Lions continued their unbeaten season with their 13th victory.

Sunday vs Guelph, L 5-1

Vizirakis was again busy between the pipes facing nine shots over the 90 minutes. Greg Chac came into the game late, but also allowed a goal in the loss.

Damon Johnson came into the match for the Blue & Gold and scored in the 66th minute to make it a one goal game. However, the host Gryphons replied with three unanswered goals to secure the victory.

The Lancers will now hit the road for the first round of the OUA playoffs on Wednesday. Opponents and game time will be announced shortly by the league. Please stay tuned for details.
