Lancers win bronze at Darcel Wright Classic

The Lancer women's basketball team captured the overall bronze medal at the Darcel Wright Memorial Classic this past weekend in Toronto.

At the annual tournament host by the Ryerson Rams, the Lancers faced the UBC Thunderbird, the McMaster Marauders, and the defending CIS Saskatchewan Huskies to bring home the medal.

In the Lancers first game, the Blue & Gold came away with a 63-57 win over UBC. They were led by senior Caitlyn Longmuir and rookie Kayah Clarke who each had 18 points, while Cheyanne Roger contributed 10 points and 8 rebounds.

The Lancers couldn't keep the momentum going in game two, as they fell 95-78 to the Marauders. Junior guard Carly Steer led the way with 14 points, while Longmuir chipped in 12 and Roger and Emily Prevost had 10 points each.

In the bronze medal match, the Lancers came away with a five-point, 70-65, win over the current national champions. Prevost had a tremendous game with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Clarke chipped in 19 points and Steer had 16.

In their final pre-season match up on Saturday, the Lancers will head across the border for a tilt against the Wayne State Warriors in Detroit, Michigan.
