The Lancer men's hockey team split the opening weekend of the 2016-17 season after falling 4-2 to the Ryerson Rams on Saturday night at South Windsor Arena.

Windsor is now 1-1 on the season, while the Rams improve to 2-0 in the west division.

Konnor Haas kicked off his Lancer career in high fashion, scoring both of Windsor's goals on the power play early in the first period to give the Blue & Gold a 2-0 lead for a majority of the first period.

The Rams had other plans for Windsor, however, and battled back with four unanswered goals throughout the remainder of the game to earn the win.

Michael Fine brought the game within one with a power play goal at 18:20 of the first.

After a scoreless second period, the Rams' Alex Basso tied the game at 5:29 of the third. Jamie Lewis then scored the go ahead goal two minutes later to give Ryerson the lead.

Windsor battled hard for the equalized, but the Rams scored an empty netter with 10 seconds on the clock to secure the victory.

The Lancers will now travel to Lakehead for a pair of games in Thunder Bay next weekend and will return home on October 21st when they host the Guelph Gryphons at 7:30pm at South Windsor Arena.
