Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lancers dominate Mustangs to close out 2016

The Lancer women's hockey team closed out the first half of their season on a positive note, dominating the Western Mustangs 8-1 on Sunday afternoon in London.

With the win, the Blue & Gold are 5-1-6-2 on the season and sit in sixth place in the standings heading into the holiday break.

GAME FLOW
The Mustangs outshot the Lancers 5-1 early on, including four shots on the power play, but Windsor quickly turned that around as they ended the period with a 16-8 shot advantage and a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Erinn Noseworthy and Krystin Lawrence scored within two minutes of each other late in the period.

The Lancers continued to outshot the Mustangs in the second period and added three goals to their lead, capped by veteran forward Noseworthy's second goal of the game and sixth in six games.

The first goal of the frame came while Windsor was on the power play. Reagan Kaufman broke the Mustangs five-game streak in which they hadn't allowed a power play goal at 6:28 of the period.

Shawna Lesperance also scored for the Blue & Gold before Western eventually got on the board when Megan Taylor found the back of the net on the power play.

The Mustangs pulled goalkeeper Katie Jacobs after allowing three goals on 20 shots and slotted in rookie Tareya Webster in the second frame.

Lawrence scored her second of the game late in the middle period, and Windsor's offence didn't stop producing goals in the third period, adding two more from Emily Bowman and Larissa Borowiec in the last seven minutes to solidify the victory.

Molly Jenkins earned the victory in net for the Lancers, allowing only one goal on 25 shots.
