Earning their second straight win, the Lancer women's hockey team defeated the host Ryerson Rams 2-1 on Friday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Â
The win moves the Lancers into sixth place in the OUA standings with a 3-0-3-1 record, while the Rams fall to 1-1-3-2.
Â
Windsor's
Shawna Lesperance fired a quick wrister from the point that teammate
Meredith Goldhawk tipped on the way to the net. It was enough to fool Ryerson goaltender Sydney Authier as the Lancers took a 1-0 lead just 20 seconds into the game.
Â
It would stay that way until midway through the second period. Following some great work down low in the Rams' zone, Lesperance found first-year
Emily Bowman all alone in the slot. She snapped the puck between the posts for the first of her OUA career and a 2-0 Windsor lead.
Â
On the power play in the third, Ryerson's Kryshanda Green banged her own rebound past Windsor goaltender
Molly Jenkins 12:21 into the frame. Her fourth of the season brought the Rams within one, but that would be as close as they would get.
Â
The Lancers will now cross town to play the Toronto Varsity Blues at 3:00pm on Saturday afternoon.
