In their final road game of the regular season, the Lancer women's basketball team defeated the Western Mustangs 76-64 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall in London.
Â
With the win, the Lancers move to into a tie for first place with the Mustangs as each team boasts a 13-5 record. In their final weekend of competition, both teams will host the Lakehead Thunderwolves and Algoma Thunderbirds next week.
Â
Cheyanne Roger once again the way for the Blue & Gold, finishing with a game high 26 points and 10 rebounds.
Emily Prevost also had a double-double with 20 points and game high 11 rebounds. Sophomore
Carly Steer put up 12 points and 8 rebounds in the win, while
Caitlyn Longmuir had a solid game defensively with 3 steals.
Â
It was easy to see why these two teams are tied for first in the OUA west division. They traded baskets and played an equally solid defensive game throughout the entire first half. Windsor only led by a mere point after one quarter of play and by three at the half.
Â
After another tight quarter in the third, the Lancers broke up the play in the final frame to out-score the hosts 23-17 to earn the win.
Â
The Lancers will host the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday February 27th at 6:30pm, before closing out the regular season in a rare Sunday game, on February 28th, when they pay tribute to their graduating seniors before tip-off against the Algoma Thunderbirds at 2:00pm. Â
