Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey eliminated by Gryphons in OT

The Lancer men's hockey team was eliminated from the post season after a heart breaking 3-2 overtime loss to the Guelph Gryphons in game three of the first round of the OUA playoffs.

Special teams were the story of the game as four of the five goals were scored with the man advantage. The Gryphons got on the board first when Robert Lepine accepted a pass from Nicholas Trecapelli and fired the puck past Lancer goaltender Michael Doan 4:50 into the game to take the one goal lead.

The Lancers retaliated with a pair of goals after the halfway point of the frame. Justice Dundas scored his second of the post season at 11:49 to tie the game before Tyson Ness jammed it into the net behind Gryphon goaltender Andrew D'Agostini at 15:54 to give the Lancers a one goal lead heading into the break.

With just one second remaining on a Julian Luciani penalty, Guelph's Scott Stevens sends the puck into the back of the net from just behind the face-off circle to tie the game with 7:03 remaining in the second.

Dylan Denomme had the Lancers best chance to take the lead in the third period with a breakaway but was shut out by D'Agostini, sending the game into overtime.

The extra frame was just as intense as regulation as the teams continued to battle down both sides of the ice. Just past the midway point of the period, Lepine scored his second of the night to win the game and advance the Gryphons into the west division semi-finals.

Both Doan and D'Agostini had solid nights between the pipes for their respective teams, with Doan finishing the night with 36 saves while his counterpart ended the night with 33.
