The Lancer women's basketball team closed out the 2015-16 regular season with a convincing 74-41 victory over the visiting Algoma Thunderbirds on Sunday afternoon at the St. Denis Centre.

With the victory, the Lancers finish the season with a 15-5 record and a first place finish in the OUA west division. Under the OUA's RPI playoff structure, the Lancers finish 6th overall in seeding and will host the Laurier Golden Hawks on Wednesday March 2nd at 6:00pm.

Windsor came out on fire out-scoring the Thunderbirds 26-12 in the opening ten minutes. Algoma found their footing in the second, challenging the Blue & Gold every step of the way. Windsor led 45-30 at the break.

In the second half, the Lancer defense was unstoppable as they held the Thunderbirds to just 11 points over the final 20 minutes, five of which came from the free throw line.

The entire Lancer roster saw time on the court in the victory and registered their name on the scoresheet.
Carly Steer had a game high 13 points, while
Emily Prevost and
Cheyanne Roger continued their stellar play with 12 and 10 points respectively. Roger also finished the game with a game high eight rebounds in twenty minute of play.

For the Thunderbirds, Laura Meadows had a team high 11 points while Sydney Resch finished with 10 points and a team high 5 rebounds. Mairead Dunn also had a strong defensive game putting up five rebounds and game high four blocks.

The Lancers will now host the Golden Hawks at 6:00pm on Wednesday. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for youth/senior and will be available at the door starting at 5:00pm.Â
