Lesperance hat trick lifts Lancers over Hawks

Led by a Shawna Lesperance hat trick, the Lancer women's hockey team dominated the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks 7-2 on Friday night as part of the Lancers Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend.

The victory was an important one as the Lancers continue to push for the final playoff spot, improving to 7-1-10-2 and only a few points back of the Laurentian Voyageurs.

Windsor's offensive outburst was led by the OUA's leading goal scorer Lesperance who had a four-point night, highlighted by a hat-trick to give her 17 goals on the year.

Hillary Hettwer scored her second goal of the season to open the scoring on the power play just eight minutes into the game to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

Erinn Noseworthy, Davis Smith and Krystin Lawrence also got on the game sheet for the Lancers, while Giuliana Pallotta, with her first career goal for the Hawks, and Dollee Meigs replied for the Hawks.

Lawrence, Noseworthy, and Lawrence continue to hold onto the top three spots in the OUA scoring race. Lawrence leads the way with 29 points, while her teammates are right behind her with 27 points apiece. Lesperance also leads the league with 17 goals while Noseworthy with second with 13 and Lawrence tops the charts in assists with 18.

Ingrid Sandven earned the win for Windsor as she made 25 saves while the Hawks saw two goaltenders between the pips. Rookie Lauren Webber was pulled in her second straight start for Laurier as she allowed five goals on 22 shots before being replaced by Amanda Smith early in the third period and fared no better allowing two goals on 11 shots.

The Lancers are back on the ice on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Guelph to take on the No. 1 ranked Guelph Gryphons at 2:00pm. The game can been seen live on www.oua.tv.
