In their final regular season home game, the Lancer women's volleyball team came from behind to defeat the York Lions 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-6) on Sunday afternoon at the St. Denis Centre.
Windsor (10-5) maintains their third place position in the west division, while the loss also does not affect the Lions (5-11), who stay in fifth place in the east.
Prior to the game the Lancers honoured graduating seniors
Shannon Dean,
Emily Durand, and
Lauren Stirling for their contribution to the program.
All sets played were extremely close as the Lions claimed the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21, before the Lancers rallied and won the remaining three sets (25-22, 25-22, 15-6) to come back to defeat the Lions 3-2.
Dean was outstanding in her final game on home court, collecting an outstanding 32 points for the Blue & Gold with 28 kills and one service ace.
Melissa Smyth and Emily McClosky hit 10 kills each, with Smyth ending the game with 13 points and McClosky with 11.
For the Lions Celeste Witzell led the team with 18.5 points from 14 kills, two service aces, and two blocks.
Stirling finished with 51 assists, while Lions Kristen Dillon grabbed 47 assists.
Windsor will now travel to Thunder Bay for a pair of games against the Lakehead Thunderwolves next weekend.
