Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball splits weekend road trip

The Lancer men's volleyball team won their first game of the season during a weekend split against the Brock Badgers and McMaster Marauders.

Windsor defeated the Badgers 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-23, 27-25) on Saturday before falling to the Marauders 3-0 (21-25, 21-25, 2-25) on Sunday afternoon.

The split moves the Blue & Gold to 1-7 in the OUA west division standings.

FRIDAY vs Brock
Sophomore Brad Gyemi led the way for the Blue & Gold with 16.5 points on 15 kills, while John Moate contributed 13.5 points.

Prior to the game, the Badgers honoured former athlete Jason Pearson who passed away in a tragic car accident in 2001. Brock's rookie setter Marcelo Correa received the inaugural Jason Pearson Memorial Volleyball Scholarship from Jason's father Mr. Larry Pearson and longtime friends Ryan Dudley and Windsor Lancers women's volleyball head coach Lucas Hodgson, who was driving the car that was hit by a drunk driver on that tragic night.

SATURDAY vs McMaster
The Lancers led the game early before the nationally ranked Marauders came from behind to take the first set and the two sets that followed.

Moate led the way for the Lancers on Sunday with 12 points on 9 kills, while Gyemi also hit double digits with 10 points.

UP NEXT
Windsor and McMaster will rematch on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm, this time at the St. Denis Centre. The game will take place as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and in honour of the 10th anniversary of the event, the Lancers are asking all fans to break out their breast cancer t-shirts from years past. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
