No. 5 Lancers fall to Marauders, defeat Badgers

The Windsor Lancer men's volleyball team got back in the win column Sunday after Saturday night's loss to McMaster in straight sets. The Lancers hosted the Brock Badgers and took the match in four sets, winning 25-18, 22-25, 25-22 and 25-21.

Windsor (3-1) is tied for second in the OUA west division with the Guelph Gryphons (3-3).

Saturday vs McMaster
The No. 5 Lancers were put to the test Saturday when they hosted the reigning OUA champions. Despite showing some promise and skill throughout, Windsor fell in three straight sets 17-25, 20-25, 21-25.

The Marauders came out on fire by dominating the net and sending over some quick balls to double the Lancers' score early on in the game. Windsor had no answer for the visitors' offense and dropped the first set 17-25.

Both teams put up a good fight offensively in the second as the Lancers tried to win the set and tie the game at one. Pierce Johnson had several kills in the set to help the Lancers challenge McMaster, but Brandon Koppers strong attack from the front and back rows eventually led to the Marauders pulling away and taking the set.

Windsor stepped up offensively to start the third, but following the technical time out, Windsor lost their energy and the Marauders came away with the win 21-25.

Gyemi led the way for Windsor with 13 kills and a dig, while Moate put up seven kills and a pair of digs. The Marauders were led by Andrew Richards with 11 kills and six digs, and Matt Passalent and Koppers who each had ten kills.

Sunday vs Brock
The Lancers were led on offense by the high powered duo of Brad Gyemi and John Moate; Gyemi led all players with 19 kills while Moate killed 11 balls for the Blue & Gold.

The Badgers were paced by Alex Carter and Logan house who each had 12 kills each.

On the defensive end the Lancers were led by libero Matthew Pe Benito who had 10 digs through four sets of action which helped the Lancers win despite 17 service errors.
