Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball splits first weekend at home

The Lancer women's volleyball split their first weekend at home with a tough 3-2 loss to the McMaster Marauders on Saturday and a 3-1 win over the Brock Badgers on Sunday.

Windsor continues to be .500 on the year with a 3-3 record and are currently tied for second in the west division standings with the Waterloo Warriors.

Saturday vs McMaster
Although the Lancers opened the game strong, McMaster never gave up on their game plan and continued to put the pressure on the Lancers. As a result, the Marauders came from behind to win the first set 25-22.

Windsor came back strong at the beginning of the second set, with Emily McClosky dominating at the net. McMaster fell behind and trailed by half for a majority of the frame, and their lack of communication helped the Lancers tie it up with a 25-16 set victory.

In the third, both teams played consistent offense by keeping the ball in play and being within points of each other throughout. Towards the end of the set, the Lancers made some smart plays by attacking the areas of the court that the Mauraders were unable to reach to win 25-22. First year outside hitter Paige Phills had five kills in the set.

Desperate to get back into the game, McMaster relied on Rachel Woock as she maintained consistency and helped keep a close score against the Lancers. Their game plan worked as the visitors built a nine point lead to win the set 25-16 and tie the game again.

In the fifth and final set, Windsor struggled defensively, being unable to save several kills sent over the net by the Marauders. McMaster continued their strong play and eventually won the set, and the game, with a 15-9 set score.

Phills finished the game with 15 kills, while Lexi Pollard had 13. Defensively, Carleigh Bailey had 15 digs for Windsor.

Sunday vs Brock
The Lancers were able to dispatch the Badgers in four sets (25-18, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-19).

For the second straight game, Phills led the way for the Lancers on offense posting 16 kills and being credited with five digs on the day. Phills also came up big for the Lancers on the service line, serving up four aces while only committing one error. On the defensive end the Lancers were once again anchored by Carleigh Bailey who posted an impressive 26 digs against the Badgers.
