Extra time needed as Lancers defeat Marauders

Another outstanding performance from Lancer senior Mike Rocca lifted the Lancers to a 91-87 overtime victory over the visiting McMaster Marauders on Wednesday night at the St. Denis Centre.

With only one game remaining in the regular season, the win was crucial for the RPI rankings as the Lancers now hold a 10-9 record and the Marauders, who are currently one spot up on the Blue & Gold in the rankings, fall to 8-10.

Down 77-71 with 3:28 remaining in regulation, Lucas Orlita hit a three to kick start the Lancer comeback. After a pair of Allin free throws, Rocca hit a layup then stole the ball from the Marauders to make a from down deep just before the shot clock expired to put Windsor up 80-77 with 30 seconds remaining.

McMaster hit a three with 17.2 seconds left to tie and send the game into overtime.

After the Marauders opened the extra frame with a 7-4 run, Rocca was fouled while making a jump shot, and hit the extra point to tie the game 87-87. Two huge blocks from Luke Allin gave the Blue & Gold the ball back and Rocca the ball. The fourth year senior scored from in the paint with 40 seconds to go, the Lancers stopped the McMaster offense and killed on the clock. Luke Allin hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to earn the 91-87 win.

Rocca finished the game with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Mitch Farrell finished with 16 points, Micqueel Martin had 15, and Allin rounded things out with 12. Connor Gilmore led the Marauders with 24 points and 15 rebounds.

Windsor will now host the Brock Badgers on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm. Prior to the game the Lancers will honour the 2006-07 OUA championship team, and will honour their graduating seniors in a post-game presentation.
