Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey season ends with heartbreaking loss

The Lancer women's hockey team's season came to a heartbreaking end Friday night at South Windsor Arena.

The visiting Guelph Gryphons scored in the final minute of regulation and added an empty net goal to break a deadlock and sweep the best of three quarter-finals series with a score of 4-2.

Just 1:18 into the opening period of play, Erinn Noseworthy flipped the puck into the back of the net to open the scoring with an unassisted goal. The Gryphons would respond with a goal from Mackenzie Wong to even the score at 1-1 heading to the second.

Kaitlin Lowy scored a power play marker in the middle period to give the Gryphons a 2-1 lead. That lead would not last long however, as OUA scoring champion Krystin Lawrence would answer back with a goal of their own just 25 seconds after Lowy's. The game was up for the taking, tied 2-2 heading to the final period of play.

The Lancers went on a 5-on-3 power play advantage but was unable to convert with time winding down. The Gryphons would score the game-winner with just :46 seconds remaining in the regulation. Then, with the Lancer net empty in favour of the man advantage, Guelph's Sydney Davison scored on the empty net to secure the series win for the top seeded Gryphons.
