Lancers advance to Final Four for 10th straight year

The Lancer women's basketball team will make their tenth straight appearance in the OUA Final Four following a 68-50 win over the Ryerson Rams in the quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at the St. Denis Centre.

Windsor will next play in the conference semi-final on Friday March 3rd against the host and top seeded Queen's Gaels in Kingston, ON at 6:00pm. The game can be seen live on www.oua.tv.

Emily Prevost was a superstar for the Blue & Gold leading all scorers with 23 points, 16 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 4 steals in 39 minutes of play. The fourth year forward had 18 points and 7 rebounds after just the first half.

Kaylee Anagnostopoulos also finished with a double-double putting up 13 points and 10 rebounds. Cheyanne Roger finished the game with 9 points, 10 rebounds.

The visiting Rams were led by third year forward Sofia Paska with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Cara Tiemens had 11 points for the reigning OUA champions.

Windsor came out strong in the first quarter to build a 12-4 lead midway through the first frame. After trailing 16-9 heading into the second quarter, the Rams re-grouped and took advantage of some poor shooting opportunities from the Lancers to make it a three point game, 28-25, at the half.

Two minutes into the third quarter, the Rams tied it up at 30, and then took their first lead of the game with four minutes remaining in the quarter.

Holding a narrow one point lead heading into the final quarter, the Lancers exploded offensively and outscored the No. 10 Rams 27-10 to take a commanding lead and punch their ticket to the Final Four.

The OUA Final Four can be seen live on oua.tv next weekend. Windsor tips off against Queen's on Friday March 3rd at 6:00pm in Kingston. The bronze medal game will be played at 6:00pm on Saturday March 4th, followed by the gold medal match at 8:00pm.
