Mike Rocca hit a dramatic half court shot at the buzzer to lead the Lancers to an 89-86 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks in the Clash at the Colosseum Wednesday evening at Caesars Windsor.
The Lancers maintain sole possession of first place in the OUA west division with a 9-8 record, while the Hawks fall to 8-10 and sit in second place in the division.
With the Golden Hawks leading 86-80,
Luke Allin and
Micqueel Martin hit three-point shots in the final minute to tie the game. Laurier had the ball with the shot clock turned off, but could not convert to set the stage for Rocca.
"Down the stretch a couple of guys made some shots to put us in that situation where I could just pray and hope that last shot goes in," Rocca said. "There's no pressure. I just threw it up and hope it goes in.
"It felt good (out of my hands), I just wasn't sure. I knew it wasn't going to be a swish because there was too much (defensive) pressure, so I needed the bank. I called it just before it banked."
Rocca finished the game with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and two steals.
Micqueel Martin also had a team high 19 points while contributing 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and three blocks. Also hitting double digits were
Luke Allin with 15 points, and
Mitch Farrell with 11.
Laurier's Tevaun Kokko led all scorers with 26 points, 6 rebounds, and seven assists.
Windsor will now travel to Waterloo to face the Warriors on Saturday at 3:00pm. The game can be seen live at www.oua.tv.
