The Lancer football team opened the 2017 season with a 54-33 loss to the visiting Waterloo Warriors on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
GAME FLOW
After the Warriors opened up the game with eight straight points, the Lancers charged back with ten points of their own with a 27 yard field goal from
Clark Green and an 11 yard TD from
Marvin Gaynor.
Tristan Carter added an 8 yard reception for the team's second score of the game to give the Lancers a 17-11 lead at the quarter break.
Three Waterloo touchdowns in the third quarter gave the visitors a 32-28 lead heading into the break.
Cassell Jones scored his first touchdown of the season and a pair of team safeties rounded out the scoring for the half.
In the second half, the Lancers struggled offensively and the Warriors added three more scores to win their first game under head coach Chris Bertoia.

Gaynor led the Lancers with 139 yards rushing and one touchdown, while
Noah Akharoh led Windsor in receiving with 66 yards on five catches. Quarterback
Sam Girard went 15-for-22, 146 yards, and two touchdowns before leaving the game with a shoulder injury.
The Warriors were led by Tre Ford who had 108 yards on the day on 14 carries, and Mitch Kernick with 80 yards on five catches. Quarterback Lucas McConnell went 7-13-2 for three touchdowns and 113 yards. Ford also had a few touches for the black & gold going 7-for-9 and one TD.
