Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer splits weekend in Waterloo

The Lancer men's soccer team split their road trip to the Waterloo region. The Lancers fell 3-1 on Saturday afternoon to the Laurier Golden Hawks before rebounding on Sunday to defeat the host Waterloo Warriors 3-2.

With a 3-5-1 record, the Lancers are now in fifth place in the OUA West division.

SATURDAY VS LAURIER
The goal scoring began in the 30th minute when Golden Hawk forward Aaron Johnston knocked in a rebound off of a Lancer defender, past goaltender Kyle Vizirakis.

The Lancers tied it up right before half in the 44th minute thanks to Dylan Satta who blasted a shot past a diving Rocco Strazzella. It would be the last of the first half scoring as the two teams headed to the break nodded up at one goal apiece.

The beginning of the second half featured some conservative play and lots of battles taking place in the middle of field, lacking any real goal threats. However, midway through the second half, the Hawks were awarded a penalty shot, and Nikola Miokovic placed a low drive into the bottom corner past Vizirakis' outstretched arm to take a 2-1 lead.

Johnston would add his second goal of the game in the 86th minute, providing the finishing touch on a terrific individual performance.

SUNDAY VS WATERLOO
Waterloo's Nicholas Rebeiro got his squad on the board in the 34th minute with a strike from about 34 yards out that gave the Warriors a 1-0 at the half.

In the opening minute of the second, Waterloo was awarded a penalty and for the second straight home game Marcus Digiovanni stepped up and sent the ball into the top left corner for a 2-0 lead.

The two goal deficit didn't stop the Blue & Gold as they retaliated with three unanswered goals to come away with the much needed victory. Goal scorers were Kyle Ruggaber (57'), Nathan Clemmings (70'), and Anthony Pollock who secured the Lancer win with just four minutes remaining in regulation.

UP NEXT
Windsor will host the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, September 23rd at 3:15pm at Alumni field, and the Brock Badgers on Sunday, September 24th, also at 3:15pm.
