Game Recap: Football |

Lancer Football falls in nation's captial

The Lancers showed fight coming off of last week's loss to Western but unfortunately it was not enough as they fell to the Ottawa Gee Gees 39-14.

The loss drops the Lancers to 0-5 on season, while the Gee Gees improved to 4-1.

STATS
Marvin Gaynor led the Lancers on the ground, picking up 97 yards on 16 carries and scoring one touchdown, averaging six yards a carry.

Marcus Kentner enjoyed a solid outing too, rushing for 74 yards on 14 carries and finding the end zone as well.

Daniel Metcalfe led the way for the defence, posting 15 tackles. The Lancers defence also forced three fumbles on the day, recovering all of them.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers travelled all the way to other end of the 401 on Saturday for a rendezvous with the University of Ottawa Gee Gees. On an unseasonably hot day in the nation's capital, both teams kicked off trying to return to winning ways after both teams lost last week.

The Gee Gees would get things going early scoring a safety and three touchdowns in the first quarter, mostly on the arm of Alex Lavric who tossed two touchdowns in the opening quarter.

The second quarter fared better for the Lancers, shortly after throwing an interception for a touchdown, the Lancers offense redeemed themselves by marching down the field for a score, capped by a two-yard score by Marvin Gaynor. The Lancers forced two fumbles in the first half, both halting Ottawa drives deep into Lancer territory. The Lancers went into the break down 30-7.

In the third quarter, the Lancer defense would continue its dominant ways from the second quarter, only surrendering a field goal for the entire third quarter.

The defensive stalemate continued into the fourth quarter. The Lancer defence held the Gee Gees out of the end zone for the third quarter in a row, surrendering two field goals.
The Lancers ended the game on a high note, with an 11-yard score from Marcus Kentner. The late touchdown made the final score 39-13 as the Lancers fell to the Geegees in Ottawa.
